Kruger Park Bungalow Safari

A Safari of exciting wildlife encounters in Kruger National Park

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Johannesburg to Kruger Park – South Africa

This three-day Kruger Park Bungalow Safari starts off in the bustling city of Johannesburg where you will be collected from your pre-tour accommodation (hotel/guesthouse) between 06h00 and 08h00. First, we drive to our preferred lodge near OR Tambo International Airport where we switch from the minibus to a larger bus which takes you to the Nelspruit Airport (KMIA). Leaving our lodge near OR Tambo at around 08h00, we reach Nelspruit Airport between 12h00 and 13h00. From here you will travel by minibus to Kruger National Park, South Africa’s premier game reserve.

Entering the vast Kruger reserve we make our way to Pretoriuskop Rest Camp in the south-western region of the park. The game viewing begins as soon as we enter the gates of this diverse game park, heading to Pretoriuskop, the oldest rest camp in Kruger National Park. This afternoon we arrive at our rest camp near Numbi Gate in time for our first sunset game drive.

Upon arrival at the rest camp, your safari guide will help you check into your air-conditioned, en-suite bungalow accommodation inside Kruger National Park, one of Africa’s top Big Five national parks. The Kruger camps are all fenced in to protect visitors from the predators inhabiting the game park. Your safari guide will inform you of the game drive departure times and provide a brief orientation of the facilities at the rest camp, which features a shop, restaurant and swimming pool.

Then we embark on our first game viewing adventure in the African bush, going in search of the abundant wildlife inhabiting this expansive park.

This sunset drive is conducted by a SANParks game ranger in an official Kruger Park vehicle. It is not a private group game drive; which means other guests may join the drive. The advantage of taking a sunset game drive with SANParks is that the official rangers are allowed to return to camp after the normal gate closing times. The sunset game drive in Kruger Park is ideal for spotting nocturnal animals that become more active after dark.

Please Note: Children under the age of six are not permitted on the SANParks game drive.

Back at the rest camp, there will be some free time before dinner, which is served at the private dining facility shown to you by the field guide. Dinner will be the hearty culinary treat of a traditional South African meal, giving you a taste of truly South African cuisine, prepared by your hostess. This tasty local meal includes fine South African wine or an alternative such as a soft drink, bottled water or beer, which can be arranged with your hostess.

After dinner, you can relax around the campfire and recount the wildlife adventures of your first day of game viewing in Kruger National Park, one of Africa’s best game reserves.

Meals included: Dinner

Please Note:

In the rare case that Pretoriuskop is fully booked, we stay at either Skukuza or Berg-en-Dal rest camps. When you inquire about the tour we will inform you if an alternative to Pretoriuskop camp is to be used.

Day 2: Kruger National Park – South Africa

An early morning wake up call from your safari guide gets the day started with the rising time depending on when the park gates open. The opening hours of Kruger gates vary in different seasons according to Kruger Park management practices. Once you are up you can head to the dining area at the rest camp for coffee or tea and rusks (local tea biscuits).

After the morning snack, we set off on a morning game drive, an excellent time of day for game viewing, in an open 4×4 safari vehicle. The morning bush drive lasts for about three to four hours and follows routes that provide superb photographic and game viewing opportunities.

Upon our return from the morning drive, brunch will be served in one of the dining areas at Pretoriuskop Rest Camp. Brunch is followed by leisure time at camp. You are free to take a swim, do some shopping, eat at the restaurant or take a nap in your chalet.

Later in the afternoon (times depend on the season and gate closing times), we set off on an afternoon game drive in a safari vehicle adapted for game viewing in the bush. Late afternoon drives are a great time for spotting and photographing wildlife in the African bush. After the game drive, you have time to freshen up at your en-suite Kruger camp chalets before dinner, which will be served in the dining facility.

Alternatively, you can set off on a free Panorama Route tour instead of game viewing.

Meals included: Breakfast and Dinner

Day 3: Kruger National Park to Johannesburg – South Africa

On the final day of our safari in Kruger Park, we get an early start so that we can embark on a morning game drive in the nearly two million-hectare national park.

After our morning game drive, we have breakfast at camp and depart from Pretoriuskop in an air-conditioned minibus (at about 9h00). We enjoy one last en route game drive as we leave Kruger Park, keeping an eye out for any wildlife we may have missed on the previous drives en route.

From Kruger National Park we drive back to Nelspruit Airport where we board the larger bus again for our return trip to the lodge at OR Tambo. Arriving at the lodge at 17h00 you are transferred to your post-tour accommodation in Johannesburg. The minibus drops you off at around 17h00 to 18h30, bringing our Budget Kruger Park Safari to a close.

Meals included: Breakfast

Free Panorama Route Tour (optional):

You have the option of exploring South Africa’s renowned Panorama Route from Kruger, instead of game viewing on day two.

One of the most scenic parts of South Africa, the Panorama Route highlights include the Blyde River Canyon, Three Rondavels, Lisbon Waterfalls and God’s Window. The free Panorama Route Excursion departs between 08h00 and 08h30, stopping in one of the quaint towns along the way for lunch (excluded). After visiting the scenic attractions on the Panorama Route we return to Kruger, arriving back at Pretoriuskop Rest Camp between 17h00 and 18h00.

You can decide if you want to replace the game drives on day two with the Panorama Route activity, during the course of your safari.

Please Note: The free Panorama Route excursion is not available on the first and last day of the safari, due to the long travelling distances and time constraints.
