Arrival at JKI Airport where you will be met and transferred to the convenient Ole Sereni hotel which is perfectly placed between the International and domestic Nairobi terminals.
Overnight at the hotel.
Day 02 & 03 Nairobi – Masai Mara National Reserve
The next morning we will set off early to Wilson Airport for our private charter flight to The Masai Mara. When we do our trips to the Mara we chose to charter rather than take the scheduled flight as it allows us to chose the time of departure to maximize time on the ground as well as allow for extra gear for those long lenses!
Landing at Ol Kiombo airstrip you will be met and transferred to your camp.
The base for this safari will be the Mara Bush Camp which is in the best position in The Mara to access as many different areas in all directions. It really is right in the middle of all the action with several resident lion prides in the location as well as several resident leopard and cheetah. Caracal has also been see in camp on occasion.
The accommodation at Mara Bush Camp is excellent along with the service and the food prepared by the chefs. There is a room dedicated to us for editing and we will be bringing along a projector and screen for post dinner image analysis and comment. The permanent tents are large with ensuite facilities that blend into the wooded area in which the camp sits on the banks of the Olare Orok river.
During the day you will leave before dawn out onto the plains of The Mara in our vehicles in search of the Big Cats. Generally we will try and stay out for most of the day taking packed lunches along with us to enjoy under a tree. At this time of year there is still a degree of cloud cover around which reduces the harsh shadows (and therefore overly shadowy eye-sockets of the big cats) and allows us to photograph throughout the day.
Day 04 Departure
On the final day there will be some time in the morning for a final drive as the sun rises over the Mara before we head back on our charter flight to Nairobi.
That adventure need not stop there however as we will be happy to arrange onward travel to other locations like Samburu in the North, with its plethora of weird and wonderful endemic birds and mammals or perhaps some rest and relaxations (and some extra editing time) on the beach at our favourite coastal destination Saruni Oceanic.
