Camel Walking With The Local Rendille and Samburu People
Tour Itinerary
Day 01 Nairobi – Nanyuki
Depart Nairobi and travel north of the city, past Mt Kenya.
Overnight in Nanyuki.
Day 02 Nanyuki – Ngurunet
Depart early to Laisamis via Isiolo on the Marsabit road. From Laisamis head west through the Kaisut desert to Ngurunet.
Day 03 Walking
We start the walk with camels as pack animals and local Rendille camel guides. The route may vary each time but basically head south of the Ndotos to the MalgisLugger, which brings water from the Wamba, Maralal and Baragoi areas. Camp near the riverbed.
Day 04 Walking
Day spent walking upstream. Again camp on or near the river bed. The local Rendille and Samburu people dig wells here. Picture taking is a problem and we suggest you just watch.
Day 05 Walking
Head away from the Malgis towards the Ndotos and Keno River. Keno is a small clear stream, nice to wash in and cool off.
Day 06 Walking
Leave camp early and head uphill with camel guides into the upper forest. A stick is handy here to fend off bushes. Views from the top are excellent on clear days and the forest is a beautiful change after the hot arid desert. Look out for elephant, buffalo, wild dogs and birds, particularly and Go-away-bird.
Day 07 Turkana
Depart by vehicle to Lake Turkana and Loiyangalani.
Day 08 Turkana
Day spent relaxing around the lake area.
Day 09 Maralal
We head south to Maralal via South Horr and Baragoi.
Day 10 – Nairobi
South over the Laikipia plains to Nyahururu and Thompsons Falls.
Then down the Rift Valley via Naivasha to Nairobi.
